Season Sorting Cards

Spring is FINALLY here, and even though weather is still pretty chilly, we know that warmer weather will arrive at some point. At the change of each season I invite my preschoolers to sort our season photo cards.

This work gives children an opportunity to reminisce on seasons past and look forward to the coming season. Some of the cards are interchangeable and I don’t correct my children when they put the card in a season that I don’t believe fits. My children always find something that like to do on the cards or something we didn’t do in the past season. This is also an invitation to discuss how seasons look in different parts of the country and world.

I’ve also found that these cards can help us remember birthdays or holidays. Time is still an abstract concept during preschool years, but photos can help children create seasonal timeline. You could even go a step further and print some photos from your phone of your child participating in seasonal activities and then allow them to organize the photos by season.

How do you acknowledge the changing of the seasons?
