Gardening Book Rotation for Toddlers

Happy April Fool’s Day!!!!

That intro really has nothing to do with today’s post, but I’m trying to be festive here.

Well, I’m sad to say that the weather here is simply NOT cooperating with our ideas of Spring. Snow was in the forecast yesterday and that’s just a little too ridiculous for me. But we’re still pushing forward with our ideas for our garden and trying new foods this Spring and Summer. I picked up a few new board books from the library for our littlest guy and he is loving the bold illustrations and vibrant colors.

If you know me, then you that I’m always trying to make sure my children see themselves in literature, and this begins in infancy. Even though we’re living in strange times, there really has been an explosion of books featuring children from different cultures, which is great for us!

I also grabbed some gardening books for the big kids so check out that post too.

EAT! By Roberta Grobel Intrater – part of the Babyfaces series

Simple text combined with a photo of adorable infants is a win win. Each page shows a messy face and by toddler loves all the books in this series, we point to eyes, ears and noses and then find the same parts on our face.

Edible Colors by Jennifer Vogel Bass

The photos in this book are AMAZING! The entire family loves looking at this book because it features common foods, in uncommon color. Purple asparagus, what???? Yes, it’s true, check out this book today.

Baby Goes to Market by Atinuke

Atinuke is one of our FAVORITE authors (have you read the Anna Hibiscus chapter books?!?!?! you should) and we love the vibrant, market featured in this story. If you’ve never been to an open air market, then you will definitely connect with this story and if you haven’t then dive right in and imagine the sounds and delights of the market.

Mrs. Peaknuckle’s Vegetable Library by Mrs. Peaknuckle

Inviting illustrations and wild foods I’ve never heard of make this book a fascinating to read with my toddler. We’re all learning together as we flip through this book and we’re challenging ourselves to try some new foods.

Baby Botanist by Dr. Laura Gehl

The Baby Scientist series has done it again with this board book. Bold line illustrations and bright colors teach us about the wide world of plants and how much there is to explore.
