Floor bed Update 15 months

Well folks, we have transitioned to a new floor bed, or I guess an actual floor bed. Little Sonny was using a twin mattress on the floor for several months and around Christmas we purchased a bed from IKEA. Now that our little guy is completely mobile (walking and climbing) I thought this would be a good time to let you all know how it’s going and in a separate post I will talk about the pros and cons of the IKEA Kura reversible bed.

If you want to see more about his room, check out this ROOM TOUR here on our YouTube Channel.

At 15 months, he climbs in and out of his bed with ease, he absolutely enjoys the freedom to come and go as he pleases. Each morning he wakes up and typically plays for a few minutes before he walks to the door and bangs on it for us to open the door. He rarely wakes up crying from this long sleep and there have been several mornings that I hear him in his room babbling and playing with one of the few toys that he has available.

Throughout the day he goes in and out of his room since his door is always open. He has board books available on low shelves and once every now and again he takes a book and sits on his book to look at it. More often than not his bed is used for wrestling matches with his older siblings as they romp and flop around on the floor.

Naptime hasn’t presented a problem so far. Typically I sit on the floor and hold him until he falls asleep, 5-10 minutes. He is no longer nursing so I just close his curtains (room darkening) and close his door and we sit down. We don’t have sound machines or lovies at this point, we tried the sound machine but it didn’t seem effective for us. About half the time I can lay him in his bed while he is still awake and I will sit on the floor, patting his back until he falls asleep.

For anyone who previously followed our sleep journey, you know that this child had no interest in day time naps for the first 10 months of his life, it was so hard and so frustrating. We are finally in a place where he sleeps consistently during the day and I am so grateful. He never took two naps a day like my other children, but it this point I don’t think it’s worth trying since he’s 15 months.

Our night time routine is similar, we walk into the room usually read a few very short books then close the door and curtains. My husband and I trade off putting him to sleep, when I was weaning him between 13-14 months, my husband put him to sleep, which was emotionally the best choice for everyone.

Okay y’all that’s all I’ve got. If you have questions or comments let me know!
