Baby Led Weaning Week 1

Here we are, it’s Week 1 of Baby Led Weaning and he’s 6.5 months old. But first let me tell you what I’ve learned from my older children about mealtime.

  • Feed your infant at the same time everyone else eats. - Why make more work for yourself by having a separate mealtime for your baby. I’ve tried it and it just adds stress.

  • Meals are more for exploration in the beginning.

  • Serve small portions.

  • Don’t dress baby in his cutest outfit for mealtime. Unless of course you like ruining cute outfits.

  • Use a wet dish towel to wipe down baby at the table after meals. Just strip them down to the diaper at the table, that way all of the mess is contained to a small area.

  • If you have carpet, you may want to cover the area under the high chair with a towel during meal time.

  • Include baby in mealtime conversation and interactions.

Week 1

First foods introduced using Baby Led Weaning: Banana, French Bread, Pork Rib bone, Chicken Drumstick Bone, Hummus and Ground Turkey

He had food prior to this but the pieces were small and I put the pieces in his mouth (which is a no no for Baby Led Weaning).

Food he had prior to the banana – chicken, pork ribs (I know, feel free to judge), clementines, bread, French toast, potato, French bread
